The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly arrested six senior officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) over allegations of a N6bn fraud. The detained officers are being interrogated by EFCC officials at the commission's headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the NSCDC officers were handed over to the EFCC on Monday by the NSCDC Commandant General, Ahmed Audi, in response to a letter from the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede. The letter reportedly demanded the release of the officers for investigation.
While details of the alleged fraud are still unclear, reports suggest that the officers are being probed for fraudulent activities worth over N6bn. The EFCC has not provided any further information on the matter, and its spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, has not responded to requests for comments. The NSCDC spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi, has also stated that he is not aware of the situation. This development highlights the ongoing efforts by Nigerian authorities to tackle corruption and financial crimes in the country. It also underscores the need for greater transparency and accountability within public institutions, as well as the importance of ensuring that those responsible for corrupt practices are held accountable for their actions.
