On Friday, a group of protesters reportedly stormed the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja, calling for the commission to reopen investigations into former Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle. According to reports, the protesters submitted a letter to the EFCC Director of Public Affairs, Wilson Uwujaren, who received it on behalf of the Chairman, Ola Olukoyede. In response, Uwujaren reportedly reassured the protesters that the commission is committed to pursuing corruption cases to a logical conclusion.
It's worth noting that Matawalle, who served as Governor of Zamfara State from 2019 until 2021, has faced corruption allegations in the past. In 2020, the EFCC reportedly launched an investigation into Matawalle's administration over allegations of financial misappropriation.
While the details of the protest remain unclear, it's encouraging to see Nigerians holding their leaders accountable and pushing for transparency and accountability in government.
