MAN- Director-General Backs Federal Government's N60,000 Minimum Wage Proposal Amid Union Rejection

The Director-General of the Manufacturing Association of Nigeria (MAN), Mr. Segun Ajayi-Kadir, expressed support for the federal government's proposed N60,000 minimum wage, which was rejected by the labor unions.
Ajayi-Kadir, speaking on a television program, emphasized the challenging economic environment for both labor and private businesses, making it difficult to meet the wage demand put forth by the labor union.

He stated that the organized private sector aligns with the federal government's stance on setting the new minimum wage at N60,000. Ajayi-Kadir clarified that the ongoing negotiations are centered on a minimum wage rather than a living wage, addressing the lowest amount payable to any worker in the country.

He acknowledged the challenging terrain for negotiating the minimum wage, considering the prevailing macroeconomic conditions and global economic instabilities. Ajayi-Kadir emphasized the constraints faced by both the government and the private sector in meeting the proposed N60,000 living wage labor request.
