The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have decided to suspend their industrial action amid disagreements over a new minimum wage and an increase in electricity prices.
TUC President Festus Osifo announced the suspension following a joint emergency national executive council meeting of the unions in Abuja.
Osifo mentioned that a communiqué will be released soon to formalize this decision.
According to reports, the labour unions have agreed to suspend the strike for one week to allow the tripartite committee to conduct discussions on the new national minimum wage.
The strike, which commenced on Monday, resulted from the unions' grievances over the rise in electricity rates and the lack of consensus on a new minimum wage.
This led to the closure of schools, companies, hospitals, and airports, and the country experienced power outages due to the shutdown of the national grid.
