Devastating Flood Displaces Over 1,600 Residents in Sokoto State

A catastrophic flood has displaced no fewer than 1,664 persons and wreaked havoc on four communities in the Gada Local Government Area, according to a statement released by the Sokoto Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) on Sunday.
The flood, triggered by a heavy downpour on July 17, 2024, has left many residents homeless and caused significant destruction to farmland, the statement signed by SEMA Information Officer Abdullahi Ghani revealed.

Ghani detailed the extent of the disaster, noting that the torrential rain overwhelmed the area, causing water levels to rise rapidly and inundate homes and agricultural lands. "The recent downpour which happened on July 17, 2024, left many residents of Gada Local Government Area of Sokoto State homeless and displaced," he said.

Local authorities and emergency responders are currently working to provide relief and support to the affected individuals, while efforts to assess the full scope of the damage and begin recovery are underway.
