In a shocking turn of events, Prince Odianosen Okojie, the husband of Nollywood star Mercy Johnson, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt just days before the Edo State elections.
The attack, which has left the political community in shock, occurred on the eve of the elections as Okojie, a House of Representatives candidate, was returning from a campaign rally.
According to reports, unknown gunmen ambushed Okojie's convoy in what appeared to be a calculated assassination attempt. Swift action from his security team helped thwart the attack, allowing him to escape unscathed.
However, some members of his convoy were injured in the process, and the attackers fled before law enforcement arrived.
Speaking about the harrowing experience, Okojie expressed gratitude for his safety, stating, "It was a terrifying ordeal, but I thank God for sparing my life.
This incident will not deter me from continuing my campaign to serve the people of Edo State."
The motive behind the assassination attempt remains unclear, but political analysts suggest it may be linked to the tense rivalry leading up to the Edo elections.
Okojie has been a prominent figure in the state's political scene, with his campaign gaining significant traction in recent weeks.
Mercy Johnson, visibly shaken by the incident, took to social media to express relief that her husband survived the attack. “Thank you for your prayers. My family and I are safe,” she posted.
The police have launched an investigation into the attack, vowing to bring the culprits to justice.
The tense atmosphere surrounding the elections has raised concerns about the security of political candidates in the region, with many calling for increased protection.
As the elections proceed, all eyes will be on Edo State, with heightened expectations of fairness and safety during this critical period.
