As the rainy season sets in, residents of Chito in the UKUM Local Government Area are once again facing major challenges.
The community’s main road has become virtually impassable, leaving many unable to access the market or transport essential goods and services.
The deteriorating condition of the road, worsened by seasonal downpours, has left Chito's residents struggling to carry out daily activities.
Community leaders and locals are calling on the state government to urgently address the issue, fearing that prolonged neglect will continue to hamper economic and social life in the area.
Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, a prominent figure in the community, echoed the residents’ sentiments, emphasizing the hardship that poor infrastructure brings.
He urged the state government to take swift action, describing the state of the road as a matter of significant concern.
“We call on the authorities to see the plight of our people,” Fr. Alia said. “The suffering is real, and we need the road fixed to improve the quality of life and access to essential services.”
With the rains showing no signs of stopping, the people of Chito hope that their call for help will not go unheard this time.
