In a significant stride towards improving education in the country, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday approved the printing of one million science textbooks for public secondary schools across the nation.
The decision comes as part of the government’s broader effort to enhance the quality of education and equip students with the necessary resources to excel in science and technology.
During the meeting, chaired by the President, the council emphasized the need to address the shortage of textbooks in public schools, particularly in science subjects.
The newly approved textbooks are expected to cover a wide range of key topics, from biology to physics, aimed at strengthening the foundational knowledge of students in these critical fields.
Minister of Education, who presented the proposal to the council, expressed optimism that the initiative would help bridge the gap in learning resources and improve students’ academic performance.
"This is a step in the right direction towards equipping our future scientists, engineers, and innovators," the minister said.
Distribution of the textbooks will commence in the coming months, with the government assuring that all public secondary schools, especially in rural and underserved areas, will be prioritized.
The initiative is part of a larger push to reform the educational system, improve literacy rates, and boost the nation’s competitiveness in the global scientific arena.
Educators and stakeholders have welcomed the move, hailing it as a much-needed investment in the country’s educational infrastructure.
With science and technology driving global development, this approval is seen as a critical step toward preparing Nigeria’s youth for the challenges of the future.
