Obasanjo Warns of Growing Threat, Out-of-School Children Could Fuel Future Insurgency

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has raised concerns over the alarming number of out-of-school children in Nigeria, warning that the issue poses a significant threat to national security.
Speaking on the ongoing crisis, Obasanjo emphasized that if the problem is not urgently addressed, it could serve as a recruitment ground for future Boko Haram insurgents.

Obasanjo's remarks highlight the gravity of the situation, as millions of Nigerian children currently lack access to education due to factors such as poverty, insecurity, and inadequate infrastructure.

He stressed that the absence of educational opportunities leaves young people vulnerable to exploitation by extremist groups, who may lure them with false promises or coercion.

The former president called on the government to prioritize educational reforms and allocate resources to ensure that every child in Nigeria has access to quality schooling.

He argued that addressing the education gap is not only a matter of human development but also a crucial step in countering extremism and fostering long-term stability in the country.

The issue of out-of-school children has long been a pressing concern in Nigeria, with estimates suggesting that over 10 million children are affected.

As the country grapples with ongoing security challenges, including the threat posed by Boko Haram, Obasanjo's warning serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of inaction.
