In a fiery statement, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has issued a stern warning to the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, against alleged plans to undermine the political stability of the South-West region.
The governor accused the APC of orchestrating a plot to "take over" Osun and Oyo States, which are currently governed by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking during a press briefing on Monday, Adeleke expressed concern over what he termed as “deliberate interference” in the governance of PDP-controlled states.
He alleged that Ganduje and the APC were devising strategies to sow discord in the region, particularly targeting the political landscapes of Osun and Oyo States.
“Let me make it clear: the South-West is not a playground for political anarchy. We will not stand by while anyone attempts to destabilize our states for selfish political gains,” Adeleke stated.
The governor further called on Ganduje to respect democratic principles and focus on addressing internal issues within his party, rather than meddling in PDP territories.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the PDP to safeguarding the democratic will of the people in the region.
APC Responds to Allegations
In a swift response, the APC dismissed Adeleke’s claims as baseless and accused the governor of attempting to deflect attention from pressing issues in Osun State.
A spokesperson for the APC said, “Governor Adeleke’s accusations are unfounded and serve only to distract from the challenges his administration is facing.”
The brewing tension highlights the intensifying rivalry between the PDP and APC as both parties gear up for future elections.
Political analysts warn that escalating disputes could further polarize the South-West region.
Observers are keenly watching how this political face-off unfolds, as it may shape the dynamics of power in the South-West and beyond.
