The Osun State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has declared its intention to oust Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2026 governorship election.
This bold assertion was made during the inauguration of NNPP offices in Ila, Boripe, and Ifelodun Local Government Areas on Thursday.
Speaking at the Ila event, Osun NNPP Chairman, Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, expressed confidence in the party’s chances, citing public dissatisfaction with both the PDP’s governance in the state and the APC’s handling of the economy at the national level.
“Our chances of winning Osun State in the 2026 poll are very bright. The NNPP has grown significantly, and the ongoing economic hardship is demarketing the APC nationally, while the PDP administration in Osun is struggling to deliver effective governance,” Odeyemi stated.
Flanked by party officials, including Ekiti State NNPP Chairman Edward Ayeni and Ogun State Publicity Secretary Omokehinde Olowu, Odeyemi urged members to remain resolute, promising them a victorious future.
In a swift rebuttal, the Osun PDP dismissed the NNPP’s claims, describing them as baseless and politically motivated.
“The NNPP’s assertions are merely rhetoric aimed at pleasing their sponsors. They lack the capacity to challenge Senator Ademola Adeleke’s reelection.
The people of Osun have witnessed unprecedented progress under his leadership,” said Oladele Bamiji, PDP Director of Media and Publicity.
Bamiji pointed to Adeleke’s achievements as evidence of his commitment to advancing Osun State, asserting that the governor’s track record would secure a second term in office.
“No party can derail the momentum we’ve built. The NNPP should save their resources and energy for a more realistic cause,” he added.
As both parties gear up for the 2026 election, the political landscape in Osun State is set for a heated contest.
While the NNPP is positioning itself as a viable alternative, the PDP remains confident in the incumbent governor’s popularity and achievements.
The coming months will reveal whether the NNPP’s ambitions can translate into tangible results or if Governor Adeleke’s administration will retain the trust of Osun’s electorate.
