Tinubu Nominates Ondo REC, Two Federal Commissioners for Senate Approval

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally submitted the nomination of Feyisinmi Ibiyemi, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ondo State, to the Senate for confirmation.

Alongside this, the President also presented the nominations of two Federal Commissioners for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Tukur AbdulRazak from the Northwest and Professor Sunday Ajah from the Southeast.

The correspondence was read on the Senate floor by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary on Tuesday, November 19, 2024. The nominations have been referred to the Senate Committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission for scrutiny and recommendations.

The committee has been tasked with reviewing the nominees’ qualifications, integrity, and suitability for the roles before presenting a report to the Senate for consideration. The timeline for the committee’s findings was not specified but is expected to be expedited.

This development is part of President Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the INEC leadership as the country prepares for upcoming elections.

More details about the nominations, including the committee's review process and anticipated Senate debates, will be released as events unfold.
