Operatives of the Odeda Division of the Ogun State Police Command have apprehended Akintoye Waris and his accomplice, Ajayi Yusuf, for allegedly stealing and slaughtering a Savannah he-goat worth N200,000. The goat was reportedly used to prepare meals for Waris’ child’s naming ceremony.
The Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, revealed on Saturday that the suspects were arrested on January 2, 2025, in the Odeda area of the state. According to Odutola, the duo had orchestrated the theft on December 25, 2024, targeting a local farm while the owner, identified simply as Mark, was away grazing other livestock.
Upon his return, Mark discovered one of his goats missing and promptly organized a search within the community. During the investigation, several villagers reported spotting Waris and Yusuf transporting the goat on a motorcycle towards Olodo town. Acting on this information, police detectives launched a manhunt that culminated in the suspects' arrest.
Odutola disclosed that during interrogation, Waris and Yusuf confessed to stealing and slaughtering the goat two days after the theft. The meat was reportedly used for the naming ceremony of Waris’ daughter, held at Olodo.
“The suspects narrated how they planned and executed the theft, transported the goat, and eventually used it to prepare food for the celebration,” Odutola stated. “They are currently in custody at the Divisional Crime Branch, where further investigations are ongoing.”
The spokesperson reassured residents of the community that the suspects would face prosecution once investigations are concluded. She also promised to provide updates as the case progresses.
The incident has sparked reactions within the local community, with many expressing shock at the audacity of the crime and urging authorities to ensure justice is served.
