Boko Haram Strikes Again: Deadly Attack in Yobe State Leaves Vigilante Dead, Buildings Razed

Gujba town in Yobe State was thrown into mourning after suspected Boko Haram insurgents launched a deadly night raid, killing a local vigilante and setting fire to several buildings and shops.

The attack, which occurred late Saturday while residents were asleep, saw the militants move from house to house in search of vigilante members. In a tragic turn of events, 32-year-old Modu Bulama was killed as he tried to escape.

Confirming the incident, the Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Goje Muhammad, revealed the extent of destruction caused by the terrorists.

According to him, a total of 14 households, comprising about 57 individuals, were directly affected. Twelve blocks of rooms and eight shops, mostly owned by business owners and local vigilante members, were completely destroyed by fire.

He added that Bulama, the slain vigilante, left behind two wives and seven children, plunging his family into deep sorrow.

Governor Mai Mala Buni expressed condolences to the affected families and assured residents of increased security measures to curb further attacks.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, despite the persistent threats posed by insurgents in the region.

The attack in Gujba adds to the growing security concerns in Yobe State, which has remained a frequent target of Boko Haram assaults. Recently, residents of Buni Yadi, the hometown of Governor Buni, have also been living in fear due to increasing attacks by the militants.

In a separate incident, Boko Haram terrorists stormed the home of a local police inspector, Malam Jibrin, in Buni Yadi’s Shuwari Baban Layi area. The insurgents killed his two sons, set their corpses on fire, and burned down his house.

Jibrin, who serves as the crime officer at the Buni Yadi police station, narrowly escaped death by scaling the fence of his house. The attack, which occurred in the early hours of the morning, further highlights the worsening security situation in the region.

With the continuous wave of violence, residents of Yobe State remain on edge, calling on authorities to intensify efforts to end the relentless bloodshed and restore peace to their communities.
