Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, has applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for rejecting what she described as a fraudulent and politically sponsored attempt to recall her from the Senate.
In a statement personally signed by her on Thursday, the senator expressed gratitude to INEC for upholding justice and resisting pressure from what she termed "anti-democratic forces" within Kogi State and the Senate.
“God has put to shame anti-democratic forces plotting my recall from the Senate, including one of the most wanted persons by the EFCC, former Governor Yahaya Bello,” Akpoti-Uduaghan declared.
INEC had earlier announced that the recall petition failed to meet the constitutional requirements, effectively putting an end to the process.
Reacting to this, Akpoti-Uduaghan took a swipe at her political adversaries, including former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, accusing them of attempting to undermine the will of the people.
“The voice of the people is the voice of God. Nobody, be it former Governor Yahaya Bello or Senate President Godswill Akpabio and their associates, can toy with the mandate freely given by the resolute people of Kogi Central without being put to shame,” she asserted.
She further praised INEC for demonstrating true independence, stating that history would remember the commission for standing on the side of justice.
“To God be the glory, we have defeated them again,” she declared, vowing that the era of political manipulation, rigging, and violence in Kogi Central was coming to an end.
Akpoti-Uduaghan also thanked Nigerians, particularly her constituents, for their unwavering support, reaffirming her commitment to championing justice and good governance.
“For me, I am out to bring justice to the oppressed, freedom to the captives, and to make my modest contribution to ensure Nigeria is great again,” she concluded.
