A wedding was called off after the couple was arrested for an alleged $3 million fraud.

The upcoming wedding of Darlington Akporugo, 46, and Jasmin Sood, 35, took an unexpected turn when the couple was arrested on charges of defrauding elderly Americans of over $3 million through online romance scams.
The wedding, originally planned for May 25 in Houston, Texas, was revealed on the wedding website. According to the United States Attorney’s Office, Southern District of Texas, Akporugo and Sood are accused of conspiring for over seven years, targeting widowed victims on social media and dating platforms.

In a statement released by the USAO in April, it was announced that Darlington Akporugo, who resided in Fulshear, is set to appear in court on allegations of conspiring to defraud over a dozen elder Americans who believed they were in romantic online relationships and sent millions to a network of fraudsters. Akporugo allegedly conspired with Jasmin Sood, also of Fulshear, to commit wire and mail fraud.

The statement further revealed that the fraudulent activities took place between 2015 and 2022, during which the couple cultivated trust with their targets and convinced them to transfer substantial sums of money to various accounts reportedly controlled by Akporugo and Sood.
