The executive members of the All Progressives Congress in Igbotako Ward 11, Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State have suspended Senator Dr. Jimoh Ibrahim, who represents Ondo Southern Senatorial District in the National Assembly, for alleged anti-party activities.
The notice of suspension, which was made available to journalists on Wednesday, was signed by ward executive members including Bakere Usuf, Tore Obwoselu, Oloyinmi Idowu, Borewaye Louyomi, Oladipupo Bose, Alkimbobola Seyi, Lawal-Babatunde, Aritawe-Ademole, Akinkuoju Olarewaju, and Fabioye Ajoke.
The lawmaker had approached a Federal High Court in Abuja to seek the nullification of the primary election that produced Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for the forthcoming election in Ondo State.
In a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/588/2024, Ibrahim claimed that the primary election on April 20 was marred with irregularities and sought the court's intervention to bar the Independent National Electoral Commission from accepting Aiyedatiwa as the APC governorship candidate. He also sought an order of perpetual injunction prohibiting Aiyedatiwa from holding himself out or parading himself as the APC governorship candidate.
In response to the alleged suspension, the media aide to the senator, Yemi Akintomide, dismissed it as a joke taken too far. He stated that the executive members of Igbotako ward II had previously passed a vote of confidence on Senator Jimoh Ibrahim and urged him to proceed with his court process, expressing strong support for him.
Akintomide emphasized that the executive members held an emergency meeting on May 9, 2024, and declared their continued support for the senator's actions against the party regarding the governorship primary election, which they described as fraudulent. He questioned the suspension, citing the prior support shown by the executive members, and asserted that Senator Jimoh Ibrahim remains unperturbed by the purported suspension.
