Bayelsa Indigene Slams N20billion Suit Against Nigerian Army Over Invasion Of Igbomotoru Community, Destruction Of Property

An individual from Igbomotoru community in Bayelsa state, Festus Daumiebi, has filed a lawsuit against the Nigerian Army, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Chris Musa, and the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi.

 Daumiebi is requesting N20.4 billion as punitive, exemplary, and special damages for violating his fundamental rights.

He is seeking the following orders from the court:
1. An order to restrain the respondents, their officers and men, agents, and privies from further invading his country home in Igbomotoru I Community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
2. An order to restrain the respondents, their officers and men, agents, and privies from invading his residences and other properties.

In conclusion, the applicant urged the court to grant the reliefs sought, stating that it would serve as a deterrent against naked, arrogant, arbitrary, and oppressive abuse of power when dealing with ordinary citizens in a democracy.
