Kano Residents Protest Emirates’ Dissolution, Sacking Of Five Emirs

Some residents of Kano State took to the streets on Sunday to express their opposition to the dissolution of emirates and the subsequent removal of five emirs by Governor Abba Yusuf's administration.
According to Daily Trust, protesters in Gaya, one of the affected emirates, displayed placards and voiced their disapproval of the dissolution of the emirate, alleging injustice.

The Kano State House of Assembly recently passed a bill titled 'The Kano State Emirates Councils (Repeal) Bill, 2024,' which nullified the creation of four additional emirates established by the previous administration and reinstated Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the Emir of Kano Emirate.

In response to these developments, a group of protesters also demonstrated at the Presidential Villa and the National Assembly in Abuja, urging President Bola Tinubu to intervene and prevent a potential breakdown of law and order in the state.
