According to SaharaReporters on March 27, which stated that Justice P T Kwahar of the Benue State High Court sitting in Makurdi has fixed May 23, 2024, for the suit challenging the unconstitutional sacking of elected local government officials in the state and subsequent appointment of caretaker committees in violation of the 1999 Nigeria Constitution (as amended).
The suit was filed by an activist, Comrade Sesugh Akume. Justice Kwahar had earlier fixed May 8, 2024, for ruling on preliminary issues in the case. It's unfortunate to hear about the unconstitutional sacking of elected local government officials in Benue State, which violates the Nigerian Constitution. The appointment of caretaker committees also undermines the democratic process, as elected officials are meant to represent the will of the people.
It's important for the rule of law and democracy to be upheld, and I hope that justice will be served in this case. The court's ruling on May 23, 2024, will be crucial in determining the outcome of the lawsuit, and I hope that it will be fair and just for all parties involved. By upholding the Nigerian Constitution, we can ensure that the rights and freedoms of all citizens are protected, and that democracy remains a cornerstone of our society.
