The political situation in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta state is heating up as the battle for the chairmanship position continues.
It has been reported that the seat of the council chairman rotates among the three clans in the council, namely Ogwashi Uku, Ubulu-Ukwu, and Nsukwa.
However, it is alleged that the immediate past council chairman, who is the younger brother of the state Commissioner for Education (Technical) and whose tenure ended in March 2024, is being imposed on the people by the commissioner.
In a surprising move, the commissioner has resigned from the cabinet of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to fight for her brother's second tenure ticket. Jude Chuwkuwinke is contesting under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for a second tenure. The situation has caused a stir in the local government area, with many questioning the commissioner's decision to resign from her position to campaign for her brother. It remains to be seen how the situation will unfold in the coming days.
