National Assembly Leadership Holds Crucial Meeting with Labour Unions to Avert Impending Nationwide Strike

The leadership of the National Assembly is currently in a meeting with the representatives of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) in a bid to avert the indefinite nationwide strike scheduled to start on Monday, June 3, 2024.
The meeting, which includes Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Abbas Tajudeen, and other principal officers, aims to prevent the strike and facilitate a return to the negotiating table.

The Presidents of the NLC and TUC, Comrade Joe Ajaero and Comrade Festus Osifo, are also in attendance at the meeting.

The labour unions have expressed their intention to embark on an indefinite nationwide strike if their demands, including the conclusion of the National Minimum Wage negotiation exercise and the reversal of the hike in electricity tariff, are not met.

The outcome of the meeting will be crucial in determining the course of action regarding the impending strike.
