The Solidarity Network for Workers' Rights (SNWR) has called for the immediate and unconditional release of three members detained at Jikwoyi Police Station in Abuja over a civic matter.
In an open letter to Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, SNWR identified the detained members as Comrades Daniel Akande, Abdullahi Bilal, and Mohammed Abdullai. The group condemned the actions of Investigating Police Officer Dogo Labari and Divisional Crime Officer Steven Yohanna as unprofessional and illegal.
The letter, titled "Petition Against Unlawful Arrest and Detention of Comrades Daniel Akande, Abdullahi Bilal, and Mohammed Abdullai," was signed by Coordinator Segun Ogun and Secretary Lateef Adamu. It was also copied to Nigerian Labour Congress President Joe Ajaero, Trade Union Congress President Festus Osifo, and several human rights organizations.
SNWR accused the officers of colluding with landlady Halimat Abdulazeez to unlawfully detain their members, despite a court ruling on May 26, 2024, in favor of Daniel Akande in a tenancy dispute with Abdulazeez.
