In a joint statement, Energy Transparency Initiative (ETI) President Francis Nedu and Secretary Ismaila Bello criticized the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) for showing clear bias towards International Oil Companies (IOCs).
The ETI leaders stressed that such favoritism undermines the government's efforts to promote indigenous businesses and serves as a disservice to the nation.
They expressed support for the House of Representatives' call for NMDPRA CEO Farouk Ahmed's resignation, aligning with lawmaker Philip Agbese's claims of deliberate attempts by NNPCL and NMDPRA to hinder Nigerian entrepreneurs.
"NNPCL and NMDPRA have shown a clear bias towards International Oil Companies (IOCs) and have consistently frustrated the efforts of Nigerian entrepreneurs," the statement read.
"Their actions are a disservice to the nation and undermine the government's efforts to promote indigenous businesses."
The ETI also called for the dismissal of NNPC Group CEO Mele Kyari, urging President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action to ensure that these regulatory agencies serve the nation's interests rather than a select few.
The Energy Transparency Initiative (ETI) has declared that the NNPCL and NMDPRA require significant reforms to better support Nigerian entrepreneurs and the broader national interest.
