A man identified as Ogundele Kazeem has been arrested and detained at Sango Ota Police Station in Ogun State for alleged domestic violence and child rights violations.
The suspect is accused of causing permanent deformity to his 12-year-old son and evicting him and his 14-year-old brother from their home.
The children, Ogundele Rafiu, 14, and Ogundele Taoreed, 12, were found roaming the streets, stealing, and doing hard work to survive. The incident occurred in the Onike area of Ogungbade, Ogun State.
The Aderemi Ogunlana Human Rights Foundation (ADOHF) reported the inhumane treatment of the children to the police.
The Foundation's President, Chief Ogunlana Basirat, was informed by the So Safe Corps of Owode Ota about the children's condition.
"The man had been so cruel to his own sons to the extent of cutting off the finger of the younger one, Taoreed, because he claimed the boy stole his N8,500.
The older boy, Rafiu, was always subjected to serious torture and tying down with rope," the source said.
The children reportedly stopped going to school and home due to their father's actions.
The father allegedly told them he would no longer feed them, forcing them to work for food by cutting grass and fetching water for neighbors.
The Foundation reported the matter to the police, and Kazeem is set to face charges in court.
Efforts to locate the children's mother have been unsuccessful, but the source noted she is also culpable for abandonment and must face charges.
Despite the children's admission of their father's accusations, the source emphasized that it does not justify the brutality they endured.
Attempts to reach the Ogun State Police Command for comment were unsuccessful.
