Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has called on President Bola Tinubu's administration to consider outsourcing the fight against terrorism in Nigeria.
Dogara's recommendation comes in light of the Nigerian military's ongoing struggle to achieve desired results against terrorism and insurgency.
Speaking on the matter, Dogara suggested that Nigeria could follow the examples set by Russia and the United States, both of which have engaged defense contractors to address threats to their territorial integrity.
"We can engage these defense contractors to help us solve this problem, assuming our conventional forces have shown or demonstrated so far that they cannot handle it," Dogara stated. "This is something we have to resolve ourselves. So, we can outsource it if that is going to give us results."
Dogara's comments highlight the urgent need for effective solutions to Nigeria's security challenges and suggest a potential strategy for achieving better outcomes in the fight against terrorism.
