Obi's Media Team Alleges Plot to Arrest Him Over Planned Nationwide Protest

Peter Obi's media team has raised alarm over alleged plans by the Bola Tinubu presidency to arrest the former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in connection with the forthcoming August 1 nationwide protest.
The reaction follows claims by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, who linked Obi to the protest.

According to Onanuga, Obi's supporters are organizing the protests against the Tinubu administration and should be held accountable for any ensuing chaos.

He further accused the organizers of being responsible for the violent 2020 ENDSARS protests.

Obi's media office, in a statement issued by spokesperson Yunusa Tanko, described the allegations as unfounded and malicious.

They suggested that the presidency aims to justify arresting Obi and restricting his freedom of association.

“The attention of the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) has been drawn to the wild, wicked, and baseless allegations by one of the Spokespersons in the Presidency, Bayo Onanuga, accusing Peter Obi of masterminding a planned protest in the country,” Tanko stated.

The statement emphasized that Obi has never been associated with violence and is known for his issue-driven approach.

It also alleged that attack dogs have been hired to undermine Obi's influence and voice among the Nigerian populace.
