In a decisive response to the ongoing floods affecting Edo State, the government has released over ₦300 million worth of relief materials to support victims.
Governor Godwin Obaseki has called on residents in flood-prone areas to immediately relocate to higher grounds or Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps established by the state.
The governor emphasized the need for urgent action to prevent loss of life and property as water levels continue to rise.
Obaseki stressed the government's commitment to safeguarding the welfare of the people, urging the public to heed weather alerts and cooperate with local authorities.
"We are doing everything in our power to provide swift and adequate relief, but we also need our people to act swiftly to save lives," he stated.
The relief materials, which include food supplies, essential items, and medical resources, will be distributed across affected areas.
IDP camps are now operational in strategic locations, fully equipped to house displaced families and offer support during the crisis.
As the situation unfolds, the state government continues to work closely with emergency response teams to ensure prompt assistance reaches all impacted communities.
Authorities have also warned of further rains and possible flooding, advising residents to remain vigilant and take all necessary precautions.
