The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has pledged unwavering support for infrastructure development benefiting Nigeria’s judiciary, despite criticism over his intentions.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Body of Benchers Office Annex construction and furnishing in Abuja on Friday, Wike underscored the importance of fostering cooperation between the three arms of government.
Defending his commitment, Wike dismissed allegations that his efforts were aimed at currying favor with the judiciary.
“Whatever they are saying, don’t listen,” he remarked. “I will continue to do my work for the best of my country. That is all I can do.”
Wike praised the Chairman of the Body of Benchers, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, for advocating collaboration between government branches.
Highlighting ongoing projects, he noted the FCT’s role in providing housing for legislators, building a new National Assembly complex, and now constructing the Body of Benchers Annex Office.
He clarified that these initiatives were not attempts to interfere in the judiciary or legislature but part of broader efforts to enhance governance infrastructure.
He also thanked President Bola Tinubu for approving the projects, including a 10-unit housing development for lecturers at the Nigerian Law School.
The minister’s remarks underscored his administration’s dedication to strengthening institutional capacity while addressing public skepticism.
