President Tinubu Appoints Nwakuche Ndidi as Acting Controller-General of Nigerian Correctional Service

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Nwakuche Sylvester Ndidi as the Acting Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).

Ndidi’s appointment comes as the tenure of the outgoing Controller-General, Haliru Nababa, concludes. Nababa had served in the role since his appointment by former President Muhammadu Buhari on February 18, 2021.

The announcement was made on Friday in a statement by the Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Board, Ja’afaru Ahmed. According to Ahmed, Ndidi's appointment takes effect from December 15, 2024.

"Nwakuche Sylvester Ndidi, born on November 26, 1966, is a native of Oguta in Imo State," the statement read. "Until his appointment, he was the Deputy Controller-General in charge of the Training and Staff Development Directorate.

He is also a fellow of the prestigious National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies and holds the national honour of Member of the Federal Republic (MFR)."

President Tinubu expressed confidence in Ndidi’s ability to lead the NCoS effectively, urging him to leverage his extensive experience in his new capacity.

Ndidi’s appointment signals a new chapter for the Correctional Service, with expectations for reform and innovation under his leadership.
