The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External results, with 57,114 out of 84,799 candidates scoring five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics. This represents a 67.35 percent success rate.
Announcing the results at NECO’s headquarters in Minna, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, stated that the examination was conducted in 29 subjects, and the results were released just 62 days after the last paper was written.
He noted that the total number of candidates comprised 44,227 males (52.21%) and 40,522 females (47.78%).
Wushishi also addressed concerns about examination malpractice, revealing that 6,160 candidates were booked for various offenses, reflecting a 27.7 percent reduction compared to 8,518 cases recorded in 2023. He emphasized that NECO remains committed to curbing exam fraud and has taken decisive actions against those found guilty.
A total of seven supervisors were recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision, lateness, and aiding and abetting malpractice. Additionally, 14 examination centres were blacklisted for engaging in ‘whole-centre’ malpractice in nine subjects. The affected centres are located in Ogun, Oyo, Lagos, Cross River, and Ebonyi States.
Prof. Wushishi reiterated that any supervisor caught engaging in malpractice would not only be blacklisted but also have their names forwarded to other examination bodies, including the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
This measure, he said, is designed to prevent dishonest supervisors from participating in future examinations, thereby maintaining the integrity of the examination process.
NECO reassured candidates that they can now check their results via the council’s official website, adding that efforts are ongoing to further improve the credibility and efficiency of the examination system.
