In a bold move to combat insecurity, Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has announced a reward of up to N5 million for whistleblowers who provide credible information leading to the arrest of kidnappers, armed robbers, or the discovery of criminal camps within the state.
This announcement was made on Saturday during the launch of Operation ‘Udo Ga-Achi’ (Peace Shall Prevail), a joint security initiative aimed at safeguarding residents and visitors in Anambra.
The event, held in Awka, emphasized the collective effort required to tackle the evolving dynamics of criminality.
Speaking at the launch, Soludo said, “We are taking decisive action on security with the formal launching of Operation ‘Udo Ga-Achi’ because we are determined to fight criminality and ensure Anambra becomes the safest state.
For whistleblowers, anyone that gives us credible information that leads to the arrest of kidnappers, armed robbers, or the rounding up of criminals in camps will receive a bounty of up to N5 million, depending on the class of the criminal.”
He further urged communities to actively participate in the fight against crime, stating that any community achieving a zero-crime rate on a monthly basis would receive N10 million as a reward.
The security operation, comprising 2,000 personnel drawn from the Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the local vigilante group ‘Agunechemba,’ is equipped with 200 patrol vehicles to ensure extensive coverage across the state.
“This operation is designed to tackle the rising insecurity in Anambra, including kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, drug abuse, criminal idolatry, land grabbing, touting, and other violent crimes,” Soludo noted.
To solidify this initiative, the governor signed the Anambra State Homeland Security Bill 2025 into law, providing a legal framework for the new security strategy.
Igwe Chidubem Iweka of Obosi was also inaugurated as the Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers’ Council, symbolizing a collaborative effort involving traditional institutions.
Commending the initiative, Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Obono-Itam assured residents of the readiness of security agencies to ensure Anambra remains safe and secure.
Governor Soludo concluded with a rallying call to all residents: “If you see or know something, say or do something! Silence means complicity.”
